Home Business Success Archives

No matter how much preparation and planning you put into your online business, many times you will become discouraged and even experience failure. For many people, these are sufficient reasons to give up.

It takes mental strength to succeed as a home-based online business owner. If you have taken the initial steps and set up your home business, then you are already ahead of many people.

There are two keys to overcoming frustration and failures. First you must accept the fact that you will fail occasionally, and then learning how to turn frustration to positive action.

Frustrations build up when we reach our limits in various areas. In business, we constantly find ourselves frustrated by limited time, by resources, and by lack of knowledge. So, what should we do when we reach any of these points?.

1. Ask for Help

There are many sources on the Internet where you can find assistance for most any problem. There are also many successful experts who have experienced and overcome the same problems you are experiencing and are more than willing to help you.

2. Take Time Out

Sometimes if you just take a breather and relax you will gain a new point of view relative to your problem. I find that sometimes just going for a walk and enjoying some beautiful scenery or new surroundings will help.

You might even need to take off a whole day. The key is to give yourself a break.  This will allow you to take a fresh look at the situation. You may be pleasantly surprised to discover a new solution that you had not previously considered.

3. Re-evaluate Your Goals

You may find that your goals need clarification. Many planning experts believe that you should set one major goal with the end in mind and the work backwards to determine what you need to do to get there.

Another way to overcome frustration is by prioritizing your tasks and narrowing your focus. Rethink your priorities and eliminate some of the time consuming activities that are not really that important.

If you budget allows you may outsource some activities. After all, you cannot be an expert in all facets of marketing an online business and outsourcing will permit you to spend more quality time on those things you can do best.

Revaluating your priorities and focusing on your end goal, asking for help when you need it, and not pushing yourself when you become discouraged are three ways to help you overcome your lack of success in your online business.

If you have owned a brick and mortar store as I have, you will find that owning a virtual shop is quite a bit different.

Your business website is your online shop and the home page is your shop window. The sales pages are your shop shelves.

Say you opened a bookstore in your town, the people who live in or near the town would make up the majority of your customers. Others might be some who commute there to work, or who happen to be visiting the town.

A great number of your sales would come from “passing trade” as people wander down the street and stop to look at the books on display in your shop window.

Others would stop in and browse your bookshelves and purchase a book.

As the bookstore owner, you would probably want to stock a wide range of book categories to accommodate to the varied tastes of your customers.

You might even operate a specialized bookstore that caters to a specific niche market of readers, such as military history, or gardening, or business. Depending on where your shop is located, and how well you advertise, you may be able to make a success of it.

But how would it be if one day you decide that you want to narrow your focus and sell just ONE title in your chosen niche market?

Suppose you are a retired aircraft design engineer and experienced pilot, and have retired to a small town. Since retiring you wrote a book titled, “How to Build and Fly Your Own Airplane.” In addition you have decided to open a bookstore to market this book.

If this is the only book in the store, do you think your store or your book would do very well? I think the answer is pretty obvious.

However, there is a place you really can set up a “one title bookstore” if you want to and perhaps build a successful business around it, and that is the Internet.

Even a book with a seemingly narrow niche audience as “How to Build and Fly Your Own Airplane” may well provide you with a big enough pool of potential customers to make a living from. I just Googled “how to build an airplane” and got 25,800,000 results.

From this you can see that you can be located anywhere and operate your business as long as you have an internet connection. This makes it possible to contact a worldwide niche market from anywhere.

There are even free and low-cost tools you can use to set everything up so that you can operate on a limited budget. This would be financially disastrous as a brick-and-mortar business but on the Internet you really can start with a “one product shop,” and build up your business from there.

The lesson to be learned here is that by targeting a very narrow niche market on the Internet, you will encounter less competition and find it much easier to dominate your chosen niche market on the search engines. You can quickly become a big fish in a little, but profitable, pond.

The key that will lead you to success online is to take the time to research your market and narrow it down till you find a sizable market within the niche that has little competition. This will give you the best opportunity for success.

Whether blog commenting is beneficial or not is often debated when discussing search engine optimization and building back links.  While this is a legitimate conversation, it often misses the point.

Even if you doubt that the back links being built will help your search engine rankings, commenting on other people’s blogs is a pretty good strategy. In order better to understand why blog commenting is still worth your time and effort, let’s take some time and examine what leaving a comment on someone else’s blog can really do for you.

We can agree that the principal purpose of blog comments is to create more traffic to your website. While great content is necessary, without help it won’t make your blog popular or build your readership.  If people don’t know it’s there, you can’t expect it to get any attention.

However, when you comment on blogs you create a very potent tool because it allows you to the interest of other people interested in your niche. Other benefits include establishing your knowledge of your subject thereby increasing your credibility. This will often create lasting relationships with your readers and other internet marketers.

There is no doubt that leaving blog comments is something that will help, but the more significant question is whether or not it is worth your time. In order to be a valuable strategy, you need to have a plan of action which requires a minimum amount of time to complete on a regular basis. Here’s a quick look at an easy blog commenting strategy that requires only 30 minutes to one hour a week.

The first two steps are essentially foundation steps. First, you need to find out where your targeted customers are already hanging out. The easiest way to determine this is to observe other popular blogs within your niche. If you find comments being left over and over again on those blogs, then you can bet that your potential customers are actively engaged with that blog. This means that you can connect to them with a comment of your own.

The second step is to establish which of the blogs provide you with the best options. It’s best then to limit the number on which you will comment on to no more than 20 or 25.I think the ideal frequency is to make a meaningful comment once a week on each blog.

With this approach you will get maximum visibility on web properties which are targeting the same market that you are. This strategy also shows your interest and lets the people know you are being helpful to them.

When using this strategy, you will not only gain the attention of other people reading those blogs, but often from the blog owners themselves.  As a result, you will be able to build relationships and partnerships as well within the industry. In addition, you will become more well known and interest in your website will increase..

If you plan properly and follow this strategy it shouldn’t require more than an hour or so a week. I’m sure you will find the time and effort you spend in blog commenting pay off in dividends exceeding your expectation.

Traffic is unquestionably important in the success of an online marketing business. However, it is important to understand why quality website traffic is critical to the success of your site. That’s what we are going to help you with in this article.

Why are the visitors there? Is it because they are interested in your niche or your product and the content on your site or are they there because they have been paid to click on an ad? Those in the first group are there because of their interest. They are targeted or pre-qualified leads. The latter group is not targeted and unlikely to stay on your site very long or to ever return.

It will be much easier for you to strive for targeted traffic once you understand the difference. Let’s take a look at some of the ways the experts do this.

You are no doubt familiar with the phrase” content is king” and that certainly applies to your website or blog. It is greatly important that the content you put on your website is interesting to your visitors. It should also be informative. It can be educational; it may answer a question or even solve a problem.

The information you post should be updated frequently. This will keep your visitors interested and increase the chances they will return often.

Now let’s examine some ways to drive even more traffic to your site.

  • Write Articles. Writing articles pertaining to your niche is a good long term strategy for sending traffic to your website. This is especially true if you submit them to 4 or 5 top article directories like EzineArticles, GoArticles ArticleDashboard Buzzle, and ArticleBase.

For article marketing to be successful you should submit articles on a regular basis. The articles need to be 400 – 500 words long with an author’s resource box at the end which directs visitors to your site.

  • Use Social Marketing. Facebook and Twitter, as you no doubt know, are very popular all over the world and more and more internet marketers are making use of these sites to market their business. These sites offer exceptional opportunities to advertise your site for free.

  • Participate In Forums. Forums can be of great help to you in 2 ways. First, you can learn from others in your niche what has been successful for them in their internet marketing endeavors. Second, you can offer your own advice or assistance to others which will increase your credibility and the trust of others. This can be big boost in your traffic.

  • Do Your Keyword Research. I could have placed this at the top of the list because it is so important. However, hear near the end is a good place to emphasize how important it is to use the right keywords to improve your website traffic – and increase your sales.

There are numerous sites and tools available to help you with keyword research.and many of them are free such as GoogleKeywodsAdwordsTool.

Using keyword phrases related to your topic will help people find your website. You need to develop a list of these phrases that you have determined to have a high number of searches and low competition and the use a different one in in each of your article and posts to your site.

These are all ways to get quality website traffic– traffic that is targeted and pre-qualified to improve your sales.
