Online Content Marketing Defined

One of the many online marketing strategies is content marketing. Simply defined, online content marketing focuses on the creation of material that will draw clients to a location such as a website.

Just as there are many online marketing strategies, there are many forms of creating content. Some examples are writing and distributing articles, creating e-books and reports either for sale or to give away, Writing blog posts and creating videos are great as well.

At one time SEO or search engine optimization was emphasized as the way to attract search engines. However, the lead search engine, Google, is more interested today in bringing higher quality and value of content to its users.

What is High Quality Content?

We talked about the importance of quality content in my previous post. In order to be successful at content marketing we also need to understand the importance of using high quality content.

This article was written by Kathryn Aragon who is editor of The Daily Egg and publisher of the C4 Report. She is committed to helping businesses communicate, connect, convert… and capture their market.

Even though the article is quite long, it will supply you with a good foundation for high quality content marketing in today’s online market place.

Here are some of the many highlights from Ms Aragon’s comments:

“In the wake of Google’s Hummingbird update (and all the other animal-related updates too), there’s one question that needs to be revisited…

What exactly is high-quality content?

Google’s apparent anti-SEO stance

Hummingbird wasn’t the only major change Google threw at marketers recently. Their removal of the keyword tool was a doozy. Even Moz hasn’t found a perfect solution for this one.

But I think the message is clear: Focus on content, not keywords.

Why all the fuss about high-quality content?

Google is in the business of answering people’s questions, and they want to do it as intuitively as possible, integrating with the way people now use technology.
Our goal is to get you to the answer you’re looking for faster, creating a nearly seamless connection between you and the knowledge you seek.

The evolution of search

Search is changing because technology is changing.

What this means for marketers

To keep up with Google, all search engines have to provide the best possible search results. They’ll continue to refine their ability to find the best, most useful content online.

So what is quality content?

Content isn’t merely a blog post or Web page that you post to your website. In reality, it’s information you submit to search engines to be given to searchers.

So quality content is anything that Google decides is worth sharing.

It’s real answers to real people’s questions.

The challenge of creating quality

1. Quality is a subjective goal.

2. Quality implies trust.

3. Higher quality content may seem to directly conflict with your profit goals.

How you can consistently create higher value content

1. Get to know your readers.

2. Talk in their language.

3. Keep the focus on customers, not selling.

Are you up for it?

It’s a new game, with little guidance except that weird, indefinable word, “quality.” But for now, it’s all we’ve got.

So are you up for it?”

There was a time when the most highly recommended method of traffic building was through Search Engine Optimization.
However, that was prior to Google making its Panda and Penguin algorithm changes.

The idea back then was to organize your content with linking techniques to make your key words show up near the top of the search engines. This could also be accomplished by posting articles on feeder sites and linking back to your site.

There were other techniques, of course, but you get the general idea. The whole strategy was concentrated on selling which usually resulted in mediocre articles with little benefit to the readers. That is when Google decided it was time for a change.
